Welcome to Year One at Mill Park Heights Primary School.
Welcome back to what will be another exciting term in Grade 1 art. During the last week of Term 1 the Year 1 students commenced a unit of work on Dance, which will continue later on in Term 2. They have been introduced to the “Go Noodle” app, which showcases a variety of dance, music, fitness and learning activities. I would highly recommend putting this “free” app on your home devices, as the kids love it! Through an assortment of dance activities, the Year 1 students will be exploring imaginative ways of moving their body both individually and collaboratively. They will be learning simple dance sequences and performing them for their peers. As with every Art session students will be encouraged to work with a growth mindset and a high level of participation and effort.

Year 1 Art
The Year One students have had a great start in the Junior art room. They have begun with a focus on celebrations and artwork from different cultures by learning about ‘Chinese New Year’, also known as “Lunar New Year”.
Students have begun to create a Chinese Dragon puppet. They have thought about the use of colour and putting in their best effort to colour in the dragon’s head and tail. Construction will begin next week to create the dragon body. Once complete the dragon puppet will be used to explore the traditional Dragon dance performed during Chinese New Year celebrations.
